DESCRIPTION
The Buechenegg is a short, sharp climb over the Albis ridge just south of Zürich – a pass at 786 metres linking Langnau am Albis with Stallikon, on the road up from Aeugst am Albis. It looks gentle on the map, but it doesn't ride that way: the little road gains a bit over 230 metres in some three kilometres, with ramps steep enough to make you sweat a great deal – which is exactly why, together with the neighbouring Albis Pass, it is one of the favourite climbs of Zürich's locals. At the top sit a restaurant locally known for its fondue, and the ridge path that runs north along the Albis to the Felsenegg viewpoint and on to the Uetliberg, Zürich's own mountain. Felsenegg is reached from Adliswil by the only public cable car in the canton. There is little history to tell here; the reward is simply the effort and then the view, opening over Lake Zürich and the little Türlersee from the wooded crest. A city's favourite hill, in miniature.
